Race - Cloven

Cloven
Some say the cloven, intelligent goats, could have ascended to power, had they come first. They first encountered the empire in its infancy, making them available in any era. They see ponykin as distant relatives, and so are most friendly with them of the various species. They do not possess brands of destiny. Few cloven dare to travel outside their own towns or ponykind cities.

Physical Description: They are the same size as ponies, but all sport horns and beards, as well as their cloven hooves. Females have smaller horns and beards, but even the youngest cloven display nubs of horns. Though they lack a brand of destiny, tribal dyes, tattoos, or shavings are commonplace. Some fashions or faiths call for the shearing of a cloven's horns, which is the only time one can be found without them. Unlike ponies, cloven tend to come in more sedate colors of black, white, brown, or grey.

Society: The cloven admire ability and deeds, making their society a meritocracy. One's breeding is secondary to what one has actually achieved during their life. It is for this reason that returning adventurers who have done well, and survived, are treated with respect. The ruling caste of cloven are those that the community most respects for their accomplishments. Those who wish to become leader of the cloven may sound like a braggart to foreign ears, as they extol the virtues of their deeds, but that is the way cloven prefer to do things.

Relations: Cloven have been and still remain neutral in most dealings with the outside world. They tend to prefer to keep to themselves, but have been known to make contact with other races. They are most friendly with ponykind, which they view as distant cousins, and welcome the interaction should one decide to venture into a goat town. Few cloven outside of the Order venture far from one of the cities, though a number of the young tend to be prone to wanderlust.

Alignment: Hard workers and performance driven, cloven run things smoothly and orderly, leading to a lawful society where everyone is expected to follow the laws because that's what is expected of them. Those that buck the establishment are frowned upon unless they can show their actions are a genuine improvement on the status quo, which may result in a changing of the laws. For those unfortunates who cannot prove themselves, public humiliation is the punishment of choice.

Adventurers: While most cloven prefer to live productive lives in the safety of their home city, some few hear the call of greater purpose. The 'Order of the Goat' is an organization comprised entirely of thrill seeking clovens. Such cloven are considered brave and romantic, but good cloven know that when one looks for trouble, trouble will find them, so becoming close to an adventuring one is asking for mischief to befall you eventually. Cloven who survive their adventuring career and settle down are treated as returning heroes, and typically end their days in comfortable fame.

Since this sounds rather like high mountain, or plateau/precipice oriented in their race. Would they share some of the earth pony feats, have any of the pegasi cloudworking options, or would it be more towards their own pool?

Those kind of places would see cloud low enough that they could use and have found some connection there in thought, but no idea here how it would balance with that kind of hybrid approach.

They are not taken to flights of fancy, and have no affinity for the air or clouds. They are more flexible than most ponies, each able to excel in different ways(hence +2 to any stat instead of locked stat spread).

Glad you like it! It's still a work in progress, of course.
