Adventure Paths Bundle(s)

Postby Sapare » Wed Jan 17, 2018 10:28 am

This is meant to be an opinion/suggestion/musing not some sort of "do this or I am mad bro" statement.

With the current new years sale on Drivethru I can not help but notice the pattern that adventure modules seem to be off limit for sales. I do not know if that is some hard rule or even cultural thing as I am still relatively new to DND. I think it quite strange as it disincentivizes them, being that there is never a "good" time to buy them. In the end, if that's how Drivethru does buisness, it can't be helped.

However, I am double confused when there are also no real bundles for the adventure modules. Wouldn't it make sense to make bundles for adventured that have multiple books attached to them.(Like To Found an Empire and Torn Wing Chronicle) Even more then setting books, you would be consciously aware that all of these books are meant to go together and feel comfortable investing in multiple up front.

Maybe adventure books are a low margin return case that makes it impossible to discount them, I don't know, but I know I would be much more inclined to buy them if I felt like there was a "smart" way to do so.

Hm? I'm set to 'allow everything that isn't brand new' for all sales.

To be perfectly honest I'd love an adventure path bundle also...especially if it was set so that, upon going to purchase, it automatically adjusted the price if you've already bought some of the adventures via DTRPG/RPGNow. I know that's possible, since I've seen some other bundles do that.

We do that with every bundle, including other books, even if they're older, just so people get discounts if they're 'upgrading'.

Just to point more directly to what I was talking about, here is an example of a campaign setting books:
http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/205 ... _id=600036

http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/151 ... _id=600036

Which is currently on the 25% sale. And were both last updated in 2017

But you have adventure modules like this one:
http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/159 ... _id=600036

That are from 2015 and are still not part of the current sale. Maybe there is some special nature to this sale that omits adventure modules but in the roughly 1 year I have been into Ponyfinder and every few month check Drivethru I have not seen any cases of any of the adventure modules being on sale. Maybe it was just coincidence but I just began to assume that they were omitted forsome reason or another.

I thought it was maybe because that one was written by someone else rather then you, but this book is not on sale either:
http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/187 ... _id=600036

and I am under the impression that this was indeed written by you. And as you can see, both of those are part of only one type of bundle, which is the complete Ponyfinder set.(which, while being a perfectly fine bundle, is obviously a bit broad if you are specifically looking for adventure modules)

I will permit myself some more musing:
One of the reasons I assume they never got a bundle is because they are technically still WIP in the sense that they are not complete as a series.(idk if To Found an Empire has a planned length, but Torn Wing Chronicles does state it plans to be 6 books) However, I almost feel like they could benefit from some form of Kickstarter style support in that case. A way to purchase the rest of the planned series ahead of time(probably once the first book is out, as a prove of concept) to help fund them. Or maybe just a Kickstarter focused on Adventure modules in general at some point.

Once again, I am new to DND but it just seems like there is a much higher focus on campaign setting books then adventure modules in Ponyfinder, and I have to assume that is because of a lack of demand for the 2nd, or at least diminished returns on them. Though, it might also just be that you do not enjoy writing them as much, obviously idk.

It's new year, new game, so maybe only rule/game books are included?

As the author of To Found an Empire I can confirm that it is finished with 6 books being the complete story arc :)

**dramatic pause**

So I was just talking to David and it seems there was a bundle for To Found an Empire but for some reason DriveThru had scrambled it.

Try this link for new ones David just set up:
